The main focus and subject of my paintings are surreal archetypes. It is through these characters and the symbols surrounding them that my desire to communicate on a subconscious level is attempted. To expound on this concept I use watercolour and colour choices to enhance the metaphysical aspects of my work.

Wassily Kandinsky in his treatise Concerning the Spiritual in Art(1912) stated that colours have deep-seated psychic correalations and that the artist's being is revealed in the prerational, utterly uninhibited expression of them. The "rational" world, given to ordinary vision is hopelessly deceptive and we must set aside reasoned "seeing" and planning so that the deeper reality of ourselves, living in the instinctual world of the subconscious may rise into sight.

The process of the characters development starts with the first brushstroke, with no preliminary sketches, I give free license to my imagination. Once the character presents itself through gesture or expression then I begin to manipulate the subject with colour and symbols. Though each painting may possess a personal message or story the viewer is invited or enticed to exanine his/her own relationship to the archetypes and their symbolism.
